Heather Harvey, Preprimary Lead Teacher

I am Heather Harvey and I am the lead teacher for the morning River Birch and afternoon Canoe Birch preprimary classes.

I live in a big yellow house in West Lafayette with Tony, my husband of 23 years, and my 16-year-old daughter Roxanne. My oldest daughter Grace is starting her freshman year at the University of Kentucky. Both girls are strong, free-thinking individuals with sharp minds and generous hearts and both graduated from MSGL Elementary. Tony, also in possession of the personal qualities mentioned above, was in charge of the MSGL building project in 2000/2001 and took a six-month hiatus from his day job to work with his father to remodel the former church that is now our beautiful school campus.

We share our lives with our West Highland White Terrier, Winston, and our Karelian Bear Dog, Dixie. Outside of school I like to take long bike rides out into the country, read all kinds of books, go to concerts, and study subjects to share with the children. On weekends Tony and I perform locally in the classic rock band "Heads on Stamps."

My Credentials

From 1988 to 2005 Heather studied journalism, communication, art, creative writing, philosophy and history at Purdue. Philosophy was both her most and least favorite subject. She has worked as a pet sitter, co-managed a lumber company, worked as a newspaper journalist and a freelance writer, and sings professionally. She took the Montessori assistant's training in 2001 and completed her AMS associate 3 - 6 year-old certification from Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center in Evanston, Illinois in 2003. She interned and assisted for four years here at MSGL before taking a lead teacher position in 2006. She also assisted one of her instructors, Don Czerwinskyj, at his school in Mt. Prospect, Illinois in the summer of 2003 and worked as an assistant in his teacher training program. This is Heather's seventh year as a lead teacher at MSGL.
