Heather Harvey

My name is Heather Harvey and I have served the Montessori School of Greater Lafayette since 1998 as a parent volunteer, newsletter editor, music teacher, assistant teacher, lead teacher, and staff and media coordinator. This year I am leading the Willow Class while Kelly Sallee is on maternity leave as well as serving as Staff and Media Coordinator. I have an AMS Early Childhood Credential.

I live in West Lafayette with Tony, my husband of 25 years, and my daughter Grace who is studying to be a nurse. My daughter Roxanne is studying marine biology at Humboldt State in California. Both girls are strong, free-thinking individuals with sharp minds and generous hearts and both attended MSGL for preschool and elementary. Tony, also in possession of the personal qualities mentioned above, managed the MSGL building project in 2000/2001 and took a six-month sabbatical from his day job to work with his father to remodel the former church that is now our beautiful school campus.

I am a writer and journalist and my recent work can be found here at Let It Be Montessori and The Heatherlands. Outside of school I like to cook, garden, take long bike rides, go to concerts, and study whatever interests me. Currently, I am into bees and am raising mason and leafcutter bees in my backyard.

My Credentials

From 1988 to 2005 Heather studied journalism, communication, art, creative writing, philosophy and history at Purdue. Philosophy was both her most and least favorite subject. She has worked as a pet sitter, co-managed a lumber company, worked as a newspaper journalist and a freelance writer, and sings professionally. She took the Montessori assistant's training in 2001 and completed her AMS associate 3 - 6 year-old certification from Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center in Evanston, Illinois in 2003. She assisted one of her instructors, Don Czerwinskyj, at his school in Mt. Prospect, Illinois in the summer of 2003 and worked as an assistant in his teacher training program. Heather interned and assisted for four years here at MSGL before working as a lead teacher from 2006 to 2013.
